OBJECTIVES: Kelch-like protein-11 (KLHL11)-IgG is associated with rhombencephalitis and seminoma. It has not previously been described as a neurologic immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-related adverse event (nirAE) or in association with esophageal adenocarcinoma. METHODS: We describe a 61-year-old man with metastatic esophageal adenocarcinoma treated with folinic acid, fluorouracil, oxaliplatin (FOLFOX), and nivolumab, who subsequently developed diplopia, vertigo, and progressive gait ataxia after 8 weeks of treatment. RESULTS: Owing to a concern for ICI-associated myasthenia gravis, nivolumab was held and he was treated with prednisone and pyridostigmine. EMG showed no neuromuscular junction dysfunction, and acetylcholine-receptor antibodies were negative. Brain MRI was unrevealing. Murine brain tissue immunofluorescence assay revealed KLHL11-IgG in both serum and CSF, confirmed by cell-based assay. Tumor histopathology demonstrated poorly differentiated, highly proliferative adenocarcinoma with increased mitotic figures and cytoplasmic KLHL11 immunoreactivity. He was initiated on 6 months of cyclophosphamide in addition to FOLFOX for post-ICI-associated KLHL11-IgG rhombencephalitis. DISCUSSION: We report KLHL11-IgG rhombencephalitis associated with poorly differentiated esophageal cancer as a novel nirAE. Tumor staining revealed KLHL11 immunoreactivity, supporting a cancer-antigen-driven ICI-associated paraneoplastic syndrome. Recognition of novel nirAEs can expedite treatment and potentially prevent progressive neurologic disability.

Introduction: Treatment of patients with pediatric differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) often involves radioiodine (RAI), which is associated with increased risks of short- and long-term adverse outcomes. The impact of RAI treatment on the female reproductive system remains uncertain. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a marker of ovarian reserve and is related to fertility. Objective: The aim was to analyze the association between RAI and serum AMH level in women treated with RAI. Methods: We evaluated women with pediatric DTC treated with RAI at the age of ≤19 years. Serum AMH was measured. Results: The study included 47 patients with a mean age of 25.1 years (12.4-50.8) at AMH measurement and follow-up of 11.8 ± 8.4 years. The mean RAI administered was 235 mCi (30-1150). Sixteen (34%) received multiple RAI doses (471 ± 215 mCi). Mean AMH level was 2.49 ng/mL (0.01-7.81); the level was 1.57 ng/mL (0.01-7.81) after multiple RAI doses and 2.99 ng/mL (0.01-6.63) after a single RAI dose (P = 0.01). Patients who received a cumulative RAI lower than 200 mCi had higher AMH levels (2.23 ng/mL, 0.39-7.81) than those who received more (1.0 ng/mL, 0.01-6.63; P = 0.02). In patients with similar cumulative RAI activities, administration of multiple RAI doses was significantly and independently associated with AMH level lower than the reference range for age (HR: 5.9, 1.55-52.2, P = 0.014) after age adjustments. Conclusion: Levels of AMH were lower after multiple RAI doses, especially after a cumulative RAI dose above 200 mCi. More studies are needed to clarify the impact of RAI on fertility considering its cumulative activity and treatment strategy.

BACKGROUND: The TeloVac study indicated GV1001 did not improve the survival of advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, the cytokine examinations suggested that high serum eotaxin levels may predict responses to GV1001. This Phase III trial assessed the efficacy of GV1001 with gemcitabine/capecitabine for eotaxin-high patients with untreated advanced PDAC. METHODS: Patients recruited from 16 hospitals received gemcitabine (1000 mg/m2, D 1, 8, and 15)/capecitabine (830 mg/m2 BID for 21 days) per month either with (GV1001 group) or without (control group) GV1001 (0.56 mg; D 1, 3, and 5, once on week 2-4, 6, then monthly thereafter) at random in a 1:1 ratio. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) and secondary end points included time to progression (TTP), objective response rate, and safety. RESULTS: Total 148 patients were randomly assigned to the GV1001 (n = 75) and control groups (n = 73). The GV1001 group showed improved median OS (11.3 vs. 7.5 months, P = 0.021) and TTP (7.3 vs. 4.5 months, P = 0.021) compared to the control group. Grade >3 adverse events were reported in 77.3% and 73.1% in the GV1001 and control groups (P = 0.562), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: GV1001 plus gemcitabine/capecitabine improved OS and TTP compared to gemcitabine/capecitabine alone in eotaxin-high patients with advanced PDAC. Background: The optimal timing for initiating multi-kinase inhibitors (MKIs) in patients with radioactive iodine-refractory (RAI-R) differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) remains unclear. Thus, we evaluated the real-world practice patterns and outcomes in asymptomatic patients with progressive RAI-R DTC (≥1 lesion ≥1 cm in diameter) in the USA (US population) and outside the USA (non-US population). Methods: In this prospective, non-interventional, open-label study, eligible patients were chosen by treating physicians to receive MKI therapy (cohort 1) or undergo active surveillance (cohort 2) at study entry. Cohort 2 patients were allowed to transition to MKI therapy later. The primary endpoint was time to symptomatic progression (TTSP) from study entry. Data were compared descriptively. When endpoints were inestimable, 36-month rates were calculated. Results: Of the 647 patients, 478 underwent active surveillance (cohort 2) and 169 received MKI treatment (cohort 1). Patients underwent surveillance at a higher rate in the US (92.6%) vs the non-US (66.9%) populations. Half of US and non-US patients who qualified for MKI treatment had initial American Thyroid Association (ATA) low-to-intermediate-risk disease. In cohort 2, the 36-month TTSP rates from study entry were 65.6% and 66.5% in the US and non-US populations, respectively. Cohort 2 patients treated later demonstrated 36-month TTSP rates of 30.8% and 55.8% in the US and non-US populations, respectively. Conclusions: Active surveillance is a viable option for asymptomatic patients with progressive RAI-R DTC. However, early intervention with MKI therapy may be more suitable for others. Further research is needed to identify patients who are optimal for active surveillance. Registration: NCT02303444.

Microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR), a widely distributed and highly toxic environmental pollutant, plays crucial roles in cancer malignancy by activating characteristically toxic signaling pathways. Traditional animal-based toxicity evaluation methods have proven insufficient for identifying the specific role of these signaling pathways. Therefore, this study aimed to uncover the regulatory relationship between the toxic pathways and the progression of gastric cancer (GC). The findings provide novel avenues for conducting in vitro toxicity tests based on the investigated pathways. We found that MC-LR promoted the migration and invasion of SGC-7901 cells while simultaneously inhibiting their apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. This observed cytotoxicity was primarily mediated through the AKT, JNK, and ERK signaling pathways. By using a mediation analysis model, we determined that AKT and ERK exhibited competitive effects in MC-LR-treated GC malignancy, while AKT and JNK acted independently from one another. This study establishes an in vitro toxicity test model of MC-LR based on toxicity-related pathways and underscores the pivotal roles of AKT, ERK, and JNK signaling in MC-LR toxicity. The findings offer a novel, fundamental framework for conducting chemical toxicity risk assessment.

An 11-year-old neutered male Miniature Poodle with a stage 3 apocrine gland adenocarcinoma was started on chemotherapy with toceranib phosphate after surgery. Beginning on day 10 of toceranib, the dog's foot pads became erythematous and hyperkeratinized. The dog complained of pain, inability to walk, depression, and loss of appetite. The symptoms resolved when toceranib was discontinued and reappeared when toceranib was resumed. Grade 3 palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia was identified as an adverse event of toceranib based on the VCOG-CTCAE and Naranjo scale. Although very rare in veterinary medicine, clinicians should consider that palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia can occur after toceranib administration.

Tissue development entails genetically programmed differentiation of immature cell types to mature, fully differentiated cells. Exposure during development to non-mutagenic environmental factors can contribute to cancer risk, but the underlying mechanisms are not understood. We used a mouse model of endometrial adenocarcinoma that results from brief developmental exposure to an estrogenic chemical, diethylstilbestrol (DES), to determine causative factors. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) and spatial transcriptomics of adult control uteri revealed novel markers of uterine epithelial stem cells (EpSCs), identified distinct luminal and glandular progenitor cell (PC) populations, and defined glandular and luminal epithelium (LE) cell differentiation trajectories. Neonatal DES exposure disrupted uterine epithelial cell differentiation, resulting in a failure to generate an EpSC population or distinguishable glandular and luminal progenitors or mature cells. Instead, the DES-exposed epithelial cells were characterized by a single proliferating PC population and widespread activation of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling. The underlying endometrial stromal cells had dramatic increases in inflammatory signaling pathways and oxidative stress. Together, these changes activated phosphoinositide 3-kinase/AKT serine-threonine kinase signaling and malignant transformation of cells that were marked by phospho-AKT and the cancer-associated protein olfactomedin 4. Here, we defined a mechanistic pathway from developmental exposure to an endocrine disrupting chemical to the development of adult-onset cancer. These findings provide an explanation for how human cancers, which are often associated with abnormal activation of PI3K/AKT signaling, could result from exposure to environmental insults during development.

Background: Most thyroid cancers of follicular origin have a favorable outcome. Only a small percentage of patients will develop metastatic disease, some of which will become radioiodine refractory (RAI-R). Important challenges to ensure the best therapeutic outcomes include proper, timely, and appropriate diagnosis; decisions on local, systemic treatments; management of side effects of therapies; and a good relationship between the specialist, patients, and caregivers. Methods: With the aim of providing suggestions that can be useful in everyday practice, a multidisciplinary group of experts organized the following document, based on their shared clinical experience with patients with RAI-R differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) undergoing treatment with lenvatinib. The main areas covered are patient selection, initiation of therapy, follow-up, and management of adverse events. Conclusions: It is essential to provide guidance for the management of RAI-R DTC patients with systemic therapies, and especially lenvatinib, since compliance and adherence to treatment are fundamental to achieve the best outcomes. While the therapeutic landscape in RAI-R DTC is evolving, with new targeted therapies, immunotherapy, etc., lenvatinib is expected to remain a first-line treatment and mainstay of therapy for several years in the vast majority of patients and settings. The guidance herein covers baseline work-up and initiation of systemic therapy, relevance of symptoms, multidisciplinary assessment, and patient education. Practical information based on expert experience is also given for the starting dose of lenvatinib, follow-up and monitoring, as well as the management of adverse events and discontinuation and reinitiating of therapy. The importance of patient engagement is also stressed.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Antibiotic exposure leads to changes in the gut microbiota. Our objective was to evaluate the association between antibiotic exposure and esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) risk. METHODS: We performed a nested case-control study using data from the Veterans Health Administration from 2004 through 2020. The case group consisted of patients who received an incident diagnosis of EAC. For each case, up to 20 matched controls were selected using incidence density sampling. Our primary exposure of interest was any oral or intravenous antibiotic use. Our secondary exposures included cumulative number of days of exposure and classification of antibiotics by various subgroups. Conditional logistic regression was used to estimate the crude and adjusted odds ratios (aORs) for the risk of EAC associated with antibiotic exposure. RESULTS: The case-control analysis included 8226 EAC cases and 140,670 matched controls. Exposure to any antibiotic was associated with an aOR for EAC of 1.74 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.65-1.83) vs no antibiotic exposure. Compared with no antibiotic exposure, the aOR for EAC was 1.63 (95% CI, 1.52-1.74; P < .001) for cumulative exposure to any antibiotic for 1 to 15 days; 1.77 (95% CI, 1.65-1.89; P < 0 .001) for 16 to 47 days; and 1.87 (95% CI, 1.75-2.01; P < .001) for ≥48 days, respectively (P for trend < .001). CONCLUSION: Exposure to any antibiotic is associated with an increased risk of EAC, and this risk increases as the cumulative days of exposure increase. This novel finding is hypothesis-generating for potential mechanisms that may play a role in the development or progression of EAC.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the carcinogenicity of 2-bromopropane (2-BP) in rats. METHODS: Male and female F344 rats were exposed by whole body inhalation to 2-BP vapor at concentrations of 0, 67, 200, and 600 ppm for 6 h/day, 5 days/week for 2 years. RESULTS: All rats of both sexes exposed to 600 ppm died or became moribund within 85 weeks. Death/moribundity was caused by 2-BP induced tumors. In males, significantly increased tumors were malignant Zymbal's gland tumors; sebaceous adenoma and basal cell carcinoma of the skin/appendage; adenocarcinoma of the small/large intestine; follicular cell adenoma of the thyroid; fibroma of the subcutis, and malignant lymphoma of the lymph node. In addition, an increased trend in tumor incidence was found in the preputial gland, lung, forestomach, pancreas islet, brain, and spleen. In females, significantly increased tumors were adenocarcinoma and fibroadenoma of the mammary gland, squamous cell papilloma of the vagina, and large granular lymphocytic leukemia of the spleen. In addition, an increased trend in tumor incidence was found in Zymbal's gland, the clitoral gland, skin, large intestine, pancreas islet, uterus, and subcutis. Particularly, malignant Zymbal's gland tumors were induced even in males exposed to the lowest concentration, 67 ppm. CONCLUSION: Two-year inhalation exposure to 2-BP resulted in multi-organ carcinogenicity in rats. Based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in this study, 2-BP has the potential to be a human carcinogen.

Background and objective: Lenvatinib showed promising results in a subgroup of patients with poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PDTC) in the SELECT trial. Our aim was to report the effectiveness and tolerability of lenvatinib in our series of PDTC patients. Methods: Medical records of eight consecutive patients with PDTC treated with lenvatinib in a single center between January 2019 and October 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Inclusion criteria were PDTC diagnosis based on Turin criteria and evidence of disease progression in the previous 6 months. Results: Eight PDTC patients received an average dose of lenvatinib of 18.1 mg for a median duration of treatment of 10.3 months. The baseline Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status was ≥2 in 50% of patients. Two patients had unresectable primary tumor. Seven patients showed extrathyroidal disease, particularly mediastinal lymph nodes (85.7%), lung (71.4%), and bone (71.4%). The disease control rate was 100%, with partial response and stable disease in 12.5 and 87.5%, respectively. The median time to best overall response was 3 months, and the median duration of response was 7.5 months. Median progression-free survival was 12 months and median overall survival was not reached. At 6, 12, and 18 months, overall survival was 87.5, 71.4, and 57.1%, respectively. All patients experienced drug-related adverse effects (AEs). Four (50%) had dose reductions and two (25%) had temporary treatment interruptions. Lenvatinib was stopped in two patients due to grade ≥3 AEs. Conclusion: Lenvatinib is an effective treatment for real-world PDTC patients. Adequate management of comorbidities and AEs increases treatment tolerability and minimizes dose reductions.

This is the phase Ib part of the phase I/II CAMILLA trial evaluating cabozantinib plus durvalumab in advanced chemo-refractory proficient mismatch repair or microsatellite stable (pMMR/MSS) gastrointestinal malignancies including gastric/gastroesophageal junction/esophageal (G/GEJ/E) adenocarcinoma, colorectal cancer (CRC), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Thirty-five patients are enrolled. There are no observed dose-limiting toxicities during dose escalation. The overall grade 3/4 treatment-related adverse event rate is 34%. Among evaluable patients (n = 30), the objective response rate (ORR) is 30%, disease control rate (DCR) 83.3%, 6-month progression-free survival (PFS) 36.7%, median PFS 4.5 months, and median overall survival (OS) 8.7 months. Responses are seen in 4 of 17, 3 of 10, and 2 of 3 patients with CRC, G/GEJ/E adenocarcinoma, and HCC, respectively. Participants with a PD-L1 combined positive score (CPS) ≥5 have numerically higher ORR, PFS, and OS. Cabozantinib plus durvalumab demonstrates a tolerable safety profile and potential efficacy in previously treated advanced pMMR/MSS gastrointestinal malignancies.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PA) incidence is rising worldwide, especially in France. The evolution of known risk factors such as tobacco smoking, obesity, type 2 diabetes, chronic pancreatitis, or constitutional mutations is not sufficient to explain this trend. Pesticides are known risk factors in other malignancies. Previous studies have outlined pesticides' influence in PA, such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane as plausible risk factors. The general population is directly or indirectly exposed to pesticides through air, food or water. Some of these chemicals may accumulate in the body all along lifetime and may harm carriers. The toxic mixing effects of these chemicals are not well documented. Several hypotheses have been put forward to explain how pesticides can induce indirect (fatty pancreas, induced diabetes) or direct (oxidative stress, cell damage) carcinogenesis in pancreatic cells through inflammation. A strong corpus exists acknowledging pesticides as a PA risk factor. However, published studies do not provide a sufficient level of evidence to prove causality and current prospective case-control studies are still ongoing.

BACKGROUND: For patients with oesophagogastric adenocarcinoma, surgery is the only curative option and despite the use of multimodality therapy, which combines it with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy, more than 50% of patients will relapse and die. Many UK patients present with advanced disease which is already inoperable or metastatic at diagnosis. For these patients, standard care chemotherapy only offers them survival of less than a year. Nivolumab, a checkpoint blockade inhibitor, has been found to work in some advanced cancers. It is proposed, for those where immunotherapy hasn't worked, that these immunologically evasive tumours need to be sensitized to immunotherapy drugs to allow them to act. METHODS: ELEVATE is a single arm phase II trial testing the overall response to nivolumab following temozolomide treatment in patients with advanced unresectable previously treated adenocarcinoma which is O6-methylguanine-DNA-methyltransferase (MGMT) methylated. 18 patients are being recruited from UK secondary care sites. To be eligible, participants must have been treated with at least 3 months of platinum and fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy. Participants will receive 50 mg/m2 temozolomide continuously for 3 months. If their disease progresses during the 3 months, they will stop temozolomide and start nivolumab at a dose of 240mg every 2 weeks. If there is no progression after 3 months the participant will continue taking temozolomide in combination with nivolumab. All treatment will stop once the participant progresses on nivolumab. The primary endpoint is the best overall response to nivolumab, using both Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours version 1.1 and immunotherapy modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours. Secondary endpoints include progression-free survival, overall survival, and quality of life. DISCUSSION: ELEVATE will provide evidence for whether giving nivolumab after temozolomide in patients with previously treated advanced oesophagogastric adenocarcinoma is safe and biologically effective prior to future randomised trials. The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors is increasing in clinical practice. While they have provided significant benefit to many patients, a new category of adverse effects, immune-related adverse effects, has emerged with their use. These effects can range from mild to severe and affect nearly every organ system. A man in his 70swith metastatic gastro-oesophageal junction adenocarcinoma who received one cycle of third-line pembrolizumab presented after three episodes of transient left facial paresthesia, the last of which extended to the left extremities and disturbed peripheral vision of the left eye. He was found to have subclinical seizures and cerebrospinal fluid positive for Ma2/Ta paraneoplastic antibodies, consistent with paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis. We describe an unusual presentation of paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis. This case adds to the limited literature describing the association of paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis and treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors as well as the observed associations with immune-related adverse events and treatment responses.

Animal models of prostate cancer are essential to identify chemopreventive treatments against this major male malignancy. The N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) plus testosterone rat model of prostate carcinogenesis is a reliable animal model that recapitulates human prostate cancer in many respects and has been used extensively in chemoprevention studies with good predictive value for the results of human clinical trials. The objective of this article is to describe the induction protocol of this model, demonstrate its robustness and reproducibility over time and across rat strains, provide diagnostic criteria for the identification of prostate lesions, and present the current tumor induction protocol so that others can use this model in a reliable manner. The majority of accessory sex gland tumors in this model are adenocarcinomas originating in the anterior and dorsolateral prostate that metastasize to lungs and abdominal structures. The rat strain used is of critical importance, with the commercially available Wistar WU and Fischer F344 strains yielding the highest tumor incidences. Low dose, long-term testosterone treatment is essential for a high tumor incidence, but in advanced stage, large adenocarcinomas do not appear to be androgen dependent. This rat model is a robust and reproducible prostate cancer animal model of human prostate cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Osimertinib is a third-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) used for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) presenting an EGFR mutation. Although Osimertinib has a better safety profile compared to older EGFR-TKIs and although adverse events (AEs) are described in literature, recently the relationship between Osimertinib therapy and cardiotoxicity is gaining attention. CASE REPORT: A 79-years old woman, with a history of lung adenocarcinoma on treatment with Osimertinib since 2019, was recovered in our department because of acute respiratory failure and acute heart failure with QT prolongation. The patient's history included hypertension, type 2 diabetes, breast carcinoma, Tuberculosis. MANAGEMENT AND OUTCOME: The patient discontinued Osimertinib therapy and we treated her with diuretics, ß-blocker, and oxygen. After an initial improvement, the heart failure worsened further, and the therapy had to be increased. We ruled out other respiratory causes of heart failure and cardiological causes of QT prolongation. After stable clinical improvement, the patient underwent coronary artery disease which was negative. Therefore, the most likely cause of acute heart disease was Osimertinib therapy. DISCUSSION: This is a rare case of concomitant QT prolongation and congestive heart failure induced by Osimertinib therapy. The cause of cardiotoxicity probably depends on factors related to the action of the drug and patient specific factors. The cardiotoxic risk in these patients seems underestimated and cardiotoxicity induced by new anticancer treatments is increasing in importance. Cardiac monitoring is recommended in neoplastic patients receiving Osimertinib therapy with cardiological risk factors.

BACKGROUND: Oesophageal adenocarcinoma is characterised by a strong male predominance. We aimed to test the hypothesis that menopausal hormonal therapy decreases the risk of oesophageal adenocarcinoma. METHODS: This population-based cohort study included all women who used systemic menopausal hormonal therapy (exposed) in Sweden between 2005 and 2018. For each exposed participant, five randomly selected female age-matched non-users of menopausal hormonal therapy (unexposed) were included. Cox regression provided hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) adjusted for age, smoking-related diagnoses, Helicobacter pylori eradication, use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/aspirin, use of statins and hysterectomy. RESULTS: The study included 296,964 users of menopausal hormonal therapy and 1,484,820 non-users. Ever-users of menopausal hormonal therapy had an overall decreased risk of oesophageal adenocarcinoma (HR 0.78, 95% CI 0.63-0.97), which remained unchanged after further adjustment for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (HR 0.78, 95% CI 0.63-0.97) and obesity/diabetes (HR 0.79, 95% CI 0.63-0.98). Decreased HRs were indicated both in users of oestrogen only (HR 0.82, 95% CI 0.60-1.12) and oestrogen combined with progestogen (HR 0.75, 95% CI 0.56-1.00). The risk reduction was more pronounced in users younger than 60 years (HR 0.57, 95% CI 0.38-0.86). CONCLUSIONS: Menopausal hormone therapy in women may decrease the risk of oesophageal adenocarcinoma.

Colon cancer is accompanied by a decrease of epithelial barrier properties, which are determined by tight junction (TJ) proteins between adjacent epithelial cells. The aim of the current study was to analyze the expression of TJ proteins in a rat model of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced colorectal cancer, as well as the barrier properties and TJ protein expression of IPEC-J2 cell monolayers after incubation with DMH. Transepithelial electrical resistance and paracellular permeability for sodium fluorescein of IPEC-J2 were examined by an epithelial volt/ohm meter and spectrophotometry. The expression and localization of TJ proteins were analyzed by immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. In the colonic tumors of rats with DMH-induced carcinogenesis, the expression of claudin-3 and -4 was significantly increased compared to controls. The transepithelial electrical resistance of IPEC-J2 cells increased, while paracellular permeability for sodium fluorescein decreased, accompanied by an increased expression of claudin-4. The increase of claudin-4 in rat colon after chronic DMH exposure was consistent with the acute effect of DMH on IPEC-J2 cells, which may indicate an essential role of this protein in colorectal cancer development.
